We are excited to launch our Teens (12-18 years old) Social Skills group! One thing that cannot be replicated in individual therapy is real interactions with peers. We have specifically designed an 8-week series that will help your teen learn how to navigate the complicated world of social connection. There has been a huge setback due to the COVID-19 lockdown where many people were unable to form in-person relationships for many months. Our aim is to give your teens healthy perspectives on relationships, practical social skills, and a safe environment to practice them.
Here is an overview of the topics that will be covered:
Session 1: Introduction and group norms - establish a safe environment and identify personal goals.
Session 2: Exploring social anxiety and social skills - understand the root of social anxiety and basic social skills to interact with others.
Session 3: Assertive communication skills - learn how to express needs and enforce boundaries in effective and healthy ways.
Session 4: Building self-confidence - understanding the source of low self-confidence and ways to boost self-confidence.
Session 5: Managing social anxiety - identify common triggers and techniques to reverse one’s anxiety response.
Session 6: Dealing with difficult people and situations - learn strategies to effectively problem solve and navigate conflicts.
Session 7: Making small talk and conversation skills - exploring ways to make verbal connections with anyone.
Session 8: Review and closure - highlight the social skills gained and the next steps forward.
