JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re expanding and looking for the right fit for our team. We require that you are mental health professional who is licensed in the State of California and/or completed a PsyD/PhD in an APA-accredited university to provide counseling that specializes in individuals, teens, couples, and families. This is an independent contractor position. The therapist will be expected to be available both virtually and in-person (office TBD around the Walnut Creek/San Ramon area but may be operating in the Dublin area temporarily) for client care 15-20 hours per week, with additional hours to meet supervision requirements, staff meetings/calls, and other requirements outlined by the state board.

The therapist will be able to provide a variety of counseling for Pivot Counseling with a passion for helping people create healthy relationships and overcome any barriers. The right personality and energy are a must for this position, someone with a positive attitude, personal relationship experience, compassionate, and highly empathetic. Personal responsibility and organizational skills are a must as we value excellence among our staff. We have referrals who are willing and ready to be seen for this position. Also, a good sense of humor is always a plus!

  • All marketing is provided by the Pivot Counseling Marketing team. There will be talks and discussions on how we can integrate up-to-date information from our counseling sessions to better reach clients that are ideal for our team.

  • Administrative tasks are in alignment with our standard operating procedures which will be outlined for you. We have straightforward administrative processes and basic note-keeping so you can focus more on counseling. 

  • We are mindful that you have a life outside of work and will discuss boundaries and ways that we can make sure you thrive in the workplace. That means open conversations about self-care opportunities, coverage, and other suggestions to feel recharged.

  • Opportunities to supervise unlicensed staff (for licensed therapists) if that feels professionally fulfilling to you.

  • You will be hired as an independent contractor. We can recommend CPA services or other services if necessary.

Reports to: Dr. Timothy Yen, CEO/Supervising Psychologist. You may also be assigned to another licensed psychologist for supervision as needed.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Licensed mental health therapists welcomed (e.g., PsyD, PhD, LCSW, LMFT) as well as psychological associates.

  • Strong clinical references from previous supervisors.

  • Experience in working with individuals, teens, couples, and families through a CBT, ACT, attachment and relational framework is recommended. The ability to incorporate spirituality, especially from a Christian worldview is a plus. Willingness to learn is a must.

  • Collaborate presence and skillful approach in managing difficult cases.

  • Excellent social skills and organizational skills which include timely completion of progress notes and administrative tasks.

  • Comfortable with providing both in-person and virtual mental health care. Office hours are available along with experience doing counseling in a HIPAA-compliant video platform.

  • This is a hybrid position with the training aimed to be licensed in California is required. Must be able to do in-person sessions in the East Bay area.

  • Organization & Time Management Skills: complete chart notes in a timely manner, return referral correspondence quickly, and eager to grow the practice.

  • Communication Skills: Strong computer skills, as well as oral and written communication. (e.g., Progress notes will be written by the end of the day, and response to new referrals within 24 hours).

  • Flexibility & Growth Mindset: holds the belief that skills can be developed through hard work, effective strategies, and input from others. Open to constructive feedback, collaboration, and innovation.
